The Complete Course of the Raku Programming Language

I am excited to announce that the Complete Course of Raku is now complete.

All five parts of the course have been written and published. The original table of contents was refreshed and updated to include a few new items, which are marked with the ‘NEW’ icon. The earlier-published Part 1 got some updates too, in particular, a few reworked exercises.

Most of the course pages now display links to the official Raku documentation so that the reader can continue learning more deeply. The Course is still built with the idea of progressive learning, which means the material is always based only on previously taught topics.

The front page was re-designed for easier navigation, as the TOC has grown so big. For quick access, the site is equipped with a search field. There are other subtle user-friendly improvements throughout the site, such as new pages for subsections, which were earlier just parts of the TOC rather than full-fledged pages. The user can now select the theme (dark/light/system) for their comfort.

But that’s not all. The Course now has a few new items beyond the original plan:

  • The Final Test, which is a 100-question quiz covering the whole course, and the user can share their result.
  • An online Raku playground added to ease the start for new Raku users.
  • A new section with 50 comprehensive exercises added as an addendum (to be opened soon).

The work on the grant is thus fully done, but the work on the Course still continues. I have a couple more ideas on how to spread the knowledge: soon, there will be a pair of mobile apps (iOS and Android) with the content of the Course, and a downloadable e-book version.

Of course, the new chapters will soon receive translations, similar to Part 1, ‘Essentials’.

As a separate point of pride, I would like to mention that the web version of the Course is now built with tools that are written in Raku:

  • The page generator tool, raku-pages.raku, is now used in place of Jekyll, which we used earlier.
  • All code snippets are now highlighted with the help of the new compiler Raku++. This replaced the Pygments tool, which is great but is less familiar with the particulars of Raku.

So, learn Raku straight away: https://course.raku.org.
